Summer Eventing Classic PHASE I: Training Level

-------
Seaboy was so out of shape. Colin was so embarrassed when he couldn't get Seaboy over a 3 foot fence in their lesson with Pearla. Perla laied into him about it - "shame on you for letting this sporty, well-bred, talented young horse rot away in a field while you chased girls around and sulked too much to care about your horses!" Pearla never held back. Colin knew she was right though and he was determined to prove her wrong.
So he'd be practicing. Everyday he would wake up at the crack of dawn and create a schedule. Most days he woke up, mucked out a few stalls and fed a few horses if the stable hands hadn't arrived yet, lunge 2 of his horses and then ride. Lately he had been riding Keno and Seaboy almost every day in order to get them into shape for the Summer Eventing Classic. Keno was a youngster - only 4 years old - so Colin was really forgiving with him when he acted up and fatigued quickly. But it was less excusable and more embarrassing when Seaboy did the same. The constant work had certainly made a difference and Colin hoped it was enough to properly compete in the 6-bar.

Colin got Seaboy all tacked up and ready to compete. Seaboy had been lounging all day and was extremely unimpressed to be tacked up and worked at 9:00pm. He pinned his ears and swung his head when Colin tried to get the bit in his mouth. Danielle had tagged along to coach Colin, and when she saw him struggling with Seaboy she just laughed. "Colin, he's a cranky little boy. Give him 25 minutes and he'll perk right up" Danielle reassured Colin as she walked away. Colin was hopeful that Danielle was right. He waited a few minutes and attempted to get the bit in Seaboy's mouth again. This time Seaboy responded with a nip to his arm. Colin decided he better wait a few more minutes.

After what seemed like forever, Colin was in the saddle and trotting Seaboy around. Thankfully, Danielle was right - Seaboy was spunky and eager to jump. The practice jumps were mostly clean ones and Colin felt he had good control over Seaboy. He could only be hopeful now because the time had come for him to enter the ring and star the 6-bar competition. Just as Colin went to press Seaboy into a trot he heard his name being shouted behind him. "Colin!! COLIN!!!" It was Danielle, "Good luck! Don't let him get away with any silly business!!" Colin waved and smiled. He was glad someone believed in them.
